'Baba Marta' is the second release from Jason Del Campo's forthcoming album 'Sage'. Whereas 'Colibri' danced and fluttered like the hummingbird of its title, 'Baba Marta' is a soothing lullaby.
Jason is a very accomplished guitarist, composer, record producer and all-round musician. He trained at the École National de Music in Villeurbanne and at the Conservatoire de Lyon, studying jazz and modern music.
Although classically trained, Jason is no traditionalist. Much like his inspirations Olafur Arnaulds and Nils Frahm, Jason includes the sonic picture in his expression, often utilising cassette recorders and other unconventional recording techniques to give the music the atmosphere he wants.
His forthcoming album, 'Sage', was recorded in a matter of days in a locked-down concert hall in Lyon. Jason went into the session without any formal arrangements for the music, and trusted himself to improvise and explore the ideas during the recording.
Although he has usually played electric guitar in the past, for this project Jason is using the classical guitar as his main instrument. The layered musical arrangemts are made by building chords from a combination of multi-tracked single notes and effects, over which he plays tender and intricate melodies. The resulting music is food for the soul; full of hope, sadness, optimism, regret, wisdom, innocence and love.
Jason aims to be playing live events in the coming months, with an impressive solo live show utilising cassette recorders, loop pedals, live percussion and bass, various effects and, at the centre of everything, his beloved guitar.
